Here We Go!!!!

“One day or day one. You decide.” – Unknown

Well today is the date that I am finally going to launch my new site. I am nervous and excited all at the same time. Will it be good? Will it be a success? Is everything going to come crashing down? I don’t know, but why not take a chance. All throughout our lives most people aren’t 100% prepared for the next step, I know I haven’t been. Whether it was driving for the first time, the dating scene, marriage, kids, adulting, the list goes on and on. But we still go ahead and do those things because it is the next step, we learn our new roles, roles that give us purpose, roles you can’t get better at without doing it yourself. Without failures you will not succeed, you will not grow, you learn from failure.

I tell my kids all the time, there is winning and there is learning. I ask them what they think did well, and what they need to improve on, before I ask about the end of the game. Of course they still would rather win, but when they lose they don’t immediately go to the negative, they focus on themselves first. They don’t blame their teammates or bad reffing or themselves, they look at the good they did and what the next step is to be better for the next game, what to work on in practice. They create their own purpose, their own goals, they learn to think independently, and deal with the ups and the downs in life.

Purpose, we have all probably seen or heard the speech given, by retired US Navy Admiral William H. McRaven, if not I have included the link here.

In his speech he talks about by starting your day with by making your bed you can change the world. I agree wholeheartedly with his sentiment and speech. The Admiral highlights well the chain reaction that happens from starting your day out by accomplishing something, by giving yourself a purpose. That is the point that I want to emphasize. By giving yourself a purpose every morning you wake up. By asking yourself every morning, what is my purpose today!? You are enabling yourself to make better choices, by being a better you than you were yesterday.

I have heard the technique before but it never really stuck into my head until very recently when I overheard a co-worker talking with their child. I have told my child similar things in the past but not worded in that way. I started thinking to myself, I teach my children to use this method to help them throughout their lives but I haven’t been doing it for myself, I wonder as adults how many of us actually do.

I wonder what if people did wake up with a purpose, would they feel the need to constantly gossip about everyone and everything the way they do now. Maybe they will, maybe they did wake up with a purpose, maybe they woke up saying who should we talk about today? Who slipped up so we can pounce? Its our job to wake up and give ourselves a positive purpose to start our day. Buy a daily calendar filled with inspirational quotes, or something you dream about having, and work towards it. Not by breaking people down but lifting them up.

I hope one day we can all wake up with a purpose for the good. It feels great looking forward instead of backwards. We learn from our mistakes, our failures. We have a choice to make from those teachings, do we grow and move forward as better people or do we continue down the same path that has led us to the exact same starting point time and time again.
